Birchwood Inn Quilter's Retreat
October 24-27, 2019
Same place, new host, familiar face. Jan VanderMolen will be hosting the annual fall retreat at Birchwood Inn this year, bringing a new twist to a favorite stitching event. Jan is a self taught quilter who loves trying out new techniques to see what works well for a specific project. She would also like to know what works well for you. So on Thursday evening, at the 8:00 pm welcome reception, participants are asked to share some of their favorite (and not so favorite) quilting tools. As Jan puts it, "Whether they were meant for quilting or designed for something totally different, it is fun to hear what has worked and has not worked for each individual quilter. And it's fun to hear about the products we purchased at a quilt shop or quilt show and forgot how it was supposed to be so wonderful and useful."
Keeping it light, fun, and interesting there will 2 instructors this year. Jan VanderMolen will be leading 2 Make-it and Take-it projects, one each afternoon. First, Fabric Scrap Twine, where you'll learn to make your own twine and explore all of the fun things you can do with it. Second, Bowl Cozy, you'll end up making these for friends and family alike! Jan will have all of the materials for both workshops, so just drop in and have fun!
The second instructor, Jan Bosscher, is requesting advance sign up for her Reversible Quilt Squares Workshop, for which there will be 2 half day sessions on Friday and Saturday morning. This is a fun project to try because there is no worry about how to get the quilting done, once your top is finished, because you do it all as you go. Consider making two different holiday themes! Click here for the supply list and details.
Of course, the option to simply come and stitch is awlays open as well. Because we are still emphasizing the most important part - Fabric, Friendship and Fun!
On Friday evening there will be a pizza dinner at the Inn at 6:30 pm, this is included with the 3 night package and is available for $13 with the 2 night package. Following dinner there will be a 'Show & Tell' of your latest quilting accomplishment, along with more wine. Optional massage will be available Saturday afternoon and Saturday's dinner is at the New York Restaurant in downtown Harbor Springs. Followed by another 'Show & Tell' of what worked and what didn't during the retreat, which will bring us full circle.
Please share this web page and the retreat dates with all of your quilting friends. We'd love to see all of your familiar faces and few fresh ones!
